- In 1914 Americans abandoned old fashioned strategies of warfare and came up with new technologies resulting in terrible destruction. The American troops believed that with these new technologies the war would come to an end quickly. Some of these new strategies or technologies was Trench Warfare. Trench warfare is was where troops dug trenches to protect themselves from artillery.
